Both recent studies below by [UMAS](https://www.u-mas.co.uk/) and [Getting to Zero Coalition](https://www.globalmaritimeforum.org/getting-to-zero-coalition) show that the adoption of zero emission fuels in shipping is bound to follow an S-curve comprising 3 phases: it starts with a slow emergence phase where there is rapid learning, it goes on with the diffusion phase where the new technology gets more and more adopted and finishes with the reconfiguration phase where the new normal is established. This has been the case with all historical industrial transformations and is logical…

The above graph indicates the need for 5% adoption rate of zero emission fuels by 2030 in order to be in line with the Paris’ goals.

Interestingly, UMAS keep track of the progression made from all different disciples involved in the shipping industry towards this “5% by 2030” goal and have published their results in this publication below.

Thank you @Jeanne.Baret!

In the Climate action in shipping - Progress towards Shipping’s 2030 Breakthrough report, there is an interesting chart showing the total number of ship technology projects by ship type fuel from 2021 to 2022Q1.

It is interesting to point out the preference of ro-ro ships and smaller vessels for hydrogen versus the tanker and bulkers exploring ammonia as fuel.

Exactly and the preference of ferries for battery power! But this has also to do with the fuel capacity.
