Dear All , perhaps you can provide information on the process of supplying cylinder lubrication, namely when activating the “Prelub” function on the MOP panel of the MAN ME diesel engine. I am interested in how many pulses the system activates at the moment and the second question - what is the pressure in the hydraulic system at the moment of oil injection? Thank you all in advance for the information. Brgds
Hi, the PRELUB function operates the lubricators for 11 injections. Enough for the starting of the engine. In addition once the Auxiliary Blowers are started a new PRELUB cycle is initiated.
The Cylinder Lubricators are operating with the hydraulic pressure of the system (225 bar in standstill). However if you wish to know the specific pressure that the activating oil has after the solenoid valve of the lubricator, you may use your portable pressure gauge and measure at position 565.

Dear Dimitrios, thanks for the information…
there is one more point on the topic related to cylinder lubrication.
When preparing the engine for start-up, as a rule, the operator presses the “lubrication” button and the system automatically produces pulses and injects oil, the question is, the piston is not always in the area of the lubricators and the oil is injected into the cylinder… What comments can you give on this point?
thanks in advance.

Dear @Tigor, you do not need to worry about the timing when prelubricating. Actually the Cylinders are never completely dry, even after long port/anchorage stays, provided that the lubrication was proper when the engine was running. Some quantity of cylinder oil is always retained in the Piston rings grooves and with the additional amount of oil supplied by the PRELUB function you are on the safe side, for the starting of the engine. After the engine will be started the normal lubrication pattern and timing will be established again.
However if you like to have piece of mind, during the preparation of the engine, you may rotate the engine by means of turning gear and at the same time activate the PRELUB function for 2-3 times.
Do not forget that 2 stroke MAN engines are able to operate for 15 minutes without cylinder lubrication, in case that a major issue will arise with the cylinder oil supply, during normal operation of the engine. The long successful presence of Alpha Lubricator has proven that it is a fool proof and reliable cylinder lubrication system. The same algorithm is used for the ME-B/C engines (same with 2.5 Alpha Lub version).

Dear Dimitris , Thanks for the answer, of course I also have this information. Your comment will most likely be useful for many. Brgds Igor
