Realistically, how important is the role of risk assessments to shipping?
The Risk assessment is a practical method to identify systematically the potential hazards on a vessel, evaluate the associated risks and eventually determine the ways to tackle them at an acceptable level. Considering that the shipping industry is linked to a rapidly changing technological and operational environment the necessity to maintain a control scheme of the arising risks is absolutely necessary. This is the reason why the most of the shipping companies have adopted the Risk Assessment methodology in the Company’s Management System.
