I have recently read that Jeff Bezos banned Powerpoint presentations at Amazon.
He argued that in order to present an idea to the higher management, Amazon employees had to write a narrative memo, instead of a Powerpoint presentation.
The idea behind this is that by using complete phrases and syntax the message becomes clearer to the audience and the author can think deeper about his/her idea.
In addition, Powerpoint presentations can (often) be distractive and may not communicate the core message(s) effectively.
In shipping we still rely a lot on Powerpoint presentations. Maybe its time to change our mind and follow Amazon’s strategy in order to increase our productivity?
The below extract from a Jeff Bezos interview is quite interesting.
