In July 2023, ExxonMobil announced the acquisition of Denbury, a leading developer of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCS) solutions for 4.9 billion USD. The CEO of ExxonMobil said: "“Acquiring Denbury reflects our determination to profitably grow our Low Carbon Solutions business by serving a range of hard-to-decarbonize industries with a comprehensive carbon capture and sequestration offering,”
Could this move mean that CCS is the most probable sustainable solution for decarbonization of the heavy industry, including shipping?
