EEXI: SHaPoLi or EPL?

SHaPoLi (Shaft Power Limitation) or EPL (Engine Power Limitation)?
Which is the most effective and viable solution to comply with the EEXI requirements?

Big topic. Depends on regulations. If IMO accepts SHaPoLi then i believe is the most safe solution. However i think they will not accept it and EPL will be the only solution.

@Philip.Argyropoulos thanks. Indeed SHaPoLi is safe and promotes the installation of a shaft torque meter which is a useful instrument whereas the EPL is a simple “limiter” - no additional benefit for the ship. Let’s see what will be the final decision of the IMO.

IMO already accepts an overridable SHaPoli option to achieve EEXI compliance.

It’s just that the SHaPoli system needs to follow the requirements of MEPC.335(76) and be verified and approved by the Administration or the RO.

@Stela.Spiraj Therefore we should approach the Flag Administration and Class Society and seek for their approval of a SHaPoLi system?

Yes @Paraschos.Liadis
you can approach the Flag or the RO with the technical description of the main system provided by the manufacturer and investigate whether the suggested SHaPoli is capable to receive the verification and approval according to the Guidelines MEPC.335(76).
