USCG MARINE SAFETY INFORMATION BULLETIN / EEXI POWER LIMITATIONS

Greetings!

The Houston-Galveston Captain of the Port (COTP) has received reports about vessels in the Vessel Traffic Service Area (VTSA) that were experiencing a delay in achieving maximum RPM or power as requested by the pilot on board due to an “automatic acceleration-limiting program” installed in their Main Engines.

This situation could potentially be connected to the installation of EPL or SHAPOLI, in the Main Engines of ships, to comply with the IMO EEXI Requirements.

This raises the possibility of discussing how the measures taken to comply with EEXI requirements impact the safe maneuverability of ships in channels, rough seas, or areas with heavy traffic.
