CII - FCelectrical for Reefer Containerships

Hello all,

There is a point that I can’t find solution for the CII Correction Factors and more specifically for the FCelectrical for Reefer Container ships.

For those that do not remember the Regulation by heart:

For ships equipped with reefer electrical consumption monitoring, they can calculate reefer container kWh. However, for ships without this capability, the calculation for reefer kWh consumption is as follows:

Where:

  1. 𝐢π‘₯ represents the default reefer consumption of 2.75 kW.
  2. π‘…π‘’π‘’π‘“π‘’π‘Ÿ_π‘‘π‘Žπ‘¦π‘  π‘ π‘’π‘Ž & π‘…π‘’π‘’π‘“π‘’π‘Ÿ_π‘‘π‘Žπ‘¦π‘  π‘π‘œπ‘Ÿt represent the number of in-use reefer-days over the declared period.
  3. π‘†πΉπ‘‚πΆπ‘Žπ‘£π‘” represents the specific fuel consumption in g/kWh. It is a weighted average of the engines used to provide electrical power, as specified in the EEDI/EEXI Technical File or NOx Technical File. If your ship does not have a Technical File, you can use default values of 175 g/kWh for 2-stroke engines and 200 g/kWh for 4-stroke engines.

My question is about the fuel deduction (FCelectrical_reefer) when using a Main Engine shaft generator with Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and Auxiliary engines with Marine Gas/Diesel Oil (MGO/MDO), where the formula calculates the Fuel Deduction based on π‘†πΉπ‘‚πΆπ‘Žπ‘£π‘”.
How can I calculate how much mass of HFO and MGO/MDO (that can be translated into grams of CO2) I can deduct from the formula for my ship?

Hi @lalis98

Following the CII G5 Guidelines, if you have the EEDI/EEXI Technical File or NOx Technical File (probably M/E Shop Test and A/E Shop Test upon agreement with the RO could work too), then you may calculate the SFOCavg as the weighted average of the engines used to provide the electrical power.

As per my understanding, if you use only the shaft generator to provide electrical power for the reefers, then the SFOC of ME may apply. When you use the M/E shaft generator with HFO and A/E with MGO/MDO, you need to calculate the weighted average of the SFOC ISO corrected values of M/E and A/E.
